These photos reflect the physical experience of creating shared leadership in a mutually empowering context. I, the rider, must learn to adjust my body to allow my horse-partner the most free use of his body. Thus what non-riders may see as control of the "other," is to the rider a reciprocal relationship based on self-control. Similarly, although the word "manage" meant physical control in the past, I believe that in the next century "manage" will come to be understood as reciprocal influence. The photos problematize dualistic definitions of other terms as well. By Grace Ann Rosile, Horse Sense At Work Please see www.horsesenseatwork.com for the complete Academy of Management storyboard. |
